Lindi Barla

Lindi Barla

Lindi Barla is a Management Consultant at UBDS. Her previous experience includes leading digital transformation for top asset firms and investment banks in the Netherlands and working with the startup scene in San Francisco. Lindi has also freelanced as a Consultant for startups in Life Sciences. She enjoys contributing to more efficiency and creativity in the projects she’s involved with.

How did you come to work with UBDS?

I had studied Innovation Sciences for Life Sciences, a BSc at Utrecht University, and an MSc at the VU in Amsterdam, and started my career as a Consultant for financial software and data companies. I went on to freelance with startups in Life Sciences, but I wanted to consult for the public sector.

I moved to London from the Netherlands in early 2020, shortly after, I met another UBDS Consultant. We discussed what I was looking for, and as it turned out, they had a project in consulting for the public sector which required an extra pair of hands. I started at UBDS the following Monday.

What does your role as a Management Consultant entail?

There’s a lot of diversity in the day to day work, even in just a single project. One day you may work on developing a target operating model that you build a structure around, another day you have to present a business case or perform a risk analysis, and all while working with different people and learning as you go.

I enjoy the impact we have through the work that we do – whether it’s optimising quality, security, efficiency in technology, or – as in my current project – significantly improving people’s working environment. Some organisations need real change and being able to enable that, and help your client move forward, is very exciting.

What is the work environment and culture like at UBDS?

At UBDS, we work with very nice people who are all willing to provide each other with a lot of support. If things are new to me, if I have a question, I can ask anyone for help. I really enjoy being part of a group of smart and creative people who want to deliver excellent outcomes and who are willing to go the extra mile to do so.

What do you enjoy about digital transformation?

I can be very passionate about things, which also means I can be frustrated with passion. That usually happens when I am confronted with inefficiencies – I enjoy turning such frustration around by asking, ‘how can we make this better?’. Digital solutions are often a significant part of the answer. Bringing your stakeholders on board to establish this transformation is satisfying.

What do you do on a day off?

I enjoy spending time with friends and I love travelling. With family living in France, South Africa and Germany, and having lived in Canada and the US, I have a few global addresses that feel like home. I am very much looking forward to trying out all the fantastic restaurants in London, because I love good food, but I’m not a great cook myself!
